Spring is here! It’s official. March 1 marked the first day of the meteorological spring for those of us in the northern hemisphere. I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled. This year we had our share of snow in Tokyo and you’ll probably remember what it was like in high school slogging through those grey days between January and spring break. Now there is light at the end of the tunnel!

I trust that 2018 has been a wonderful year for you and your family so far. Here at CAJ, we are grateful for God’s faithfulness to our community. Our classrooms are filled with more than 440 students and we continue to serve another 330 students across Japan through School Support Services.

As we approach our 70th anniversary in 2020, we have been reflecting on our school’s core values and preparing for the future. We would appreciate your prayers as we seek to continue to be a Christ-centered school that partners with families to equip their children to serve Japan and the world for Christ.

For those of you who are in town, we hope you’ll drop by for some of the events that we have planned for the spring. It would be great to see you on campus! Also, if you would like to send us a personal update for the next CAJ Chronicle, please email by April 22.

Dear CAJ Community,

It is with great sadness that I need to inform you of a recent development related to CAJ.

We have learned that a former CAJ teacher has been arrested in the US on charges of soliciting sex with a minor and possession of child pornography. While all of the details are still coming in, this situation must be carefully investigated and dealt with appropriately.

It is upsetting that anyone who has served on staff at CAJ and has been entrusted with our children should be accused of such horrendous acts.

William "Billy" Ball was a band teacher at CAJ from 2004 - 2008. After leaving CAJ, he taught at Yokohama International School. While we are not aware of any incidents involving Mr. Ball and members of the CAJ community, we are approaching this with an abundance of caution.

Should anyone have any information or concerns please contact me directly. Our Leadership Team takes this very seriously and we want to make sure that members of our community feel comfortable coming forward with any details regarding Billy Ball that you think may be useful in the current investigation in the United States.

At CAJ, student protection is a top priority. The Leadership Team and I have worked hard to make sure that we have the proper policy in place to create a safe environment for our students. We also need your help. If you haven’t already, please take a moment to read my blog from last October and familiarise yourself with our guiding principles. We are always open to suggestions, so please feel free to reach out to me or other members of the Leadership Team at any time.

Child Protection Policy

We will continue to follow the Billy Ball case and keep you informed about any developments that are related to our community.
