HS girls' cross country forfeits matchups against St. Maur and Seisen

A CAJ high school girls' cross country team suffering injuries and sickness lost 15-50 to both Seisen and St. Maur on Saturday. The Knights have a record of 0-6, but they've had to forfeit many of those decisions because they haven't had the five healthy runners that are needed to register a score.

Only two of the five girls completed the race on Saturday: Sara and Charis. Sara had a time of 24:07.5 on the 4.4-kilometer course and placed 47th out of 56 varsity runners. Charis was right behind at 48th place with a time of 24:12.1.

"We struggled with illness and injury, but the girls that were able to run did well," coach Nate Rudd said.

Rudd offered some more of his thoughts on the girls' team as it heads into the second half of the season and prepares for a different course in the next couple meets.

"It is funny to me that they worry about the 5k [race distance] coming up," Rudd said. "We’ve definitely been training for it and I think they’re ready. We’ll also be working on speed and hill work with the girls. We’re just hoping to avoid injuries that have plagued a few of the girls and we want to strengthen them up in certain ways to prevent further injury."

CAJ's middle school and freshmen runners will complete next Thursday again at Tama Hills on the lower course, which is 5k for the high school. The entire team will also run that course the following Saturday, which is October 13.
