Field hockey team wins a pair of games against YIS and BST

The field hockey team improved its undefeated record to 4-0 on Saturday with a pair of 3-0 wins against YIS and BST at ASIJ. Some of the team's reserves also played an exhibition JV game against ASIJ and won 6-5.

"The biggest difficulty for us [in the varsity games] was adjusting to the astro turf, since we usually play on a very hard surface," coach Victor Eby said. "Initially, we had some bad hits topping the ball. But once we adjusted, we were able to much connect better for some nice hits."

CAJ ended the first varsity game with five total short corner plays and just two in the second varsity game. However, Eby mentioned that the short corner plays the team executed "were very effective."

Eby praised the performances of Yohana and Miyuki defensively, as well as the passing of Rina, the shooting of Reeko and the hustle of Riko.

Reeko, Meg (12th grade) and Morgan each had goals against YIS. Against BST, Meg (12th grade), Reeko and Rika each had one goal with one assist each for Rika and Krista.

In the JV game, CAJ played 6-on-6 with four 15-minute quarters. The Knights made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter with four goals in the quarter. The six goals were scored by Joy (3), Karin (2) and Abby (1).

The next match for CAJ will be at Kawasaki against BST on Tuesday.
