HS tennis teams compete at ASIJ JV Tennis Jamboree

Several members of the high school boys' and girls' tennis teams were able to compete at the ASIJ JV Tennis Jamboree on Saturday.

"The match scores and results were not recorded because the jamboree was aimed at letting tennis players have more actual match experience no matter if they win or lose," coach Koji Yamabe said. Yamabe added that players had three matches of 20 minutes.

Rain did interrupt the event, but Yamabe said that Abhirupan, Peter and Joel helped sweep the water from the courts to make for just a 40-minute delay.

"One thing we coaches are proud of with these team members is that each of them is a very fast, independent learner of tennis," Yamabe said. "At the very beginning of the season, some were still learning how to count the score, when to switch courts and how to hit the ball."

"They looked much more independent and confident compared to the first match. Others with a bit more experience also learned more about ball placement and other strategies through this experience."

The girls' team will play on Tuesday at ISSH and will host Seisen on Friday. The boys will host St. Mary's at CAJ on Saturday.
