JV girls' basketball opens season with 25-20 win over Seisen

The JV girls' basketball team started its season with a 25-20 win at Seisen on Saturday. Akina led the Knights with eight points. She was followed by Jessica and Tayoung (five points each) and Kiara (four points).

The game's margin stayed within five points for all 32 minutes. CAJ scored the game's first four points, but Seisen went on a 12-4 run to lead 12-8 at halftime. The Knights had a 12-4 run of their own in the third quarter before holding off the Phoenix with strong defense in the fourth quarter.

"I was impressed with how well we played our 1-3-1 defense," coach Jared Johnson said. "The players are learning to anticipate where the ball is going, and we had a lot of steals."

Johnson did mention that the Knights need to work on two things: boxing out to collect more rebounds and staying calm offensively. CAJ had many fast-break chances that ended in missed layups or turnovers.

The next game for the Knights is at ISSH on Thursday.
