JV boys' basketball falls 79-20 to Kinnick

The JV boys' basketball team couldn't stay with Kinnick on the road on Tuesday night, losing 79-20. CAJ is now 0-2 this season.

Coach Charles Smoker said about the team, "I could tell by your warmups that we just weren't at all focused and mentally ready for a battle."

The Knights struggled greatly in the first half against the Red Devils' physical, trapping 1-3-1 defense. Smoker said CAJ panicked and turned the ball over numerous times against the defensive. The team's deficit was 54-14 at halftime.

However, Smoker said the JV started to show some of the key "non-skill traits" needed to win basketball games in the second half.

"We did much better in the second half in guts, courage, effort and hustle," Smoker said. "We learned a lot tonight. We didn't give up, and guys wanted to play, so that's commendable!"

Dongha once again carried the scoring load for CAJ with 13 points.

The team's next two games will be the alumni games on December 18 and January 4, but the Knights will next play officially on January 9 at home against YIS.
