JV boys' basketball loses 61-19 to Zama

The JV boys' basketball team lost 61-19 to Zama on Tuesday night. The Knights now have a 1-4 record this season.

CAJ had three players sick and two players who moved up to varsity permanently for this game. The shorthanded Knights struggled to advance the ball past half court against the Trojans' stingy pressure defense for most of the game.

""From the beginning, we came out flat confidence-wise and not 100 percent prepared," coach Charles Smoker said. "They beat us on the boards and we coughed the ball up too many times against their press."

However, the Knights did pick up their effort to play a solid fourth quarter, matching the Trojans in points (eight) during that portion of the game.

"We never threw in the towel and said 'I don't want to play,'" Smoker said. "We had guys on the bench who wanted to play, and when I took guys out, they wanted to go back in. That resilience is one thing I see in this team, that passion and desire to play even when we're down by a lot of points."

Hikaru led the Knights with seven points. HoJeong also had five points and Taiyo had four.

The Knights' next game is at home on Friday against St. Mary's.
