JV girls' basketball wins 26-22 against YIS

The JV girls' basketball team stopped a three-game losing streak on Wednesday by defeating YIS 26-22. The Knights are now 4-3 this season.

CAJ's offense continued its trend of starting slowly, and the team also struggled to rebound on both ends of the floor against a taller YIS team. The Knights had only two points in the first quarter and eight points in the first half, taking a 9-8 deficit into the halftime break.

However, the Knights started to get things going in the third quarter with aggressive drives to the basket and more focus on rebounding. CAJ ended the game with 19 free-throw attempts, making 10 of them. The Knights kept attacking even when YIS took a 20-19 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

"Our 1-3-1 trapping defense made a lot of positive things happen for us, and our aggression improved after halftime," coach Jared Johnson said. "The key for us going forward is controlling possession better by winning the turnover and rebounding battles."

Mari once again led CAJ with 12 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks. Akina had seven points, five rebounds and three steals and Mariko had three points and eight rebounds. Tayoung also had two points and five steals.

The Knights' next game will be next Tuesday at home versus ISSH.
