The JV girls' basketball team couldn't hold a slim second-half lead against Seisen on Wednesday and lost 38-32. The Knights now have a 3-2 league record this season.

For much of the game, CAJ was able to convert its close shot opportunities on offense and cut off passing and driving lanes near the basket on defense. However, Seisen picked up its intensity on both ends of the floor in the fourth quarter, and the Knights couldn't respond. The Phoenix outscored the Knights 12-5 in the fourth quarter.

"Poor rebounding hurt us more than anything else in this game, especially at the end," coach Jared Johnson said. "We're still trying to develop the habit of being physical and using our bodies aggressively."

Johnson said the team was mostly successful at moving the ball around Seisen's zone defense to generate quality opportunities without throwing the ball away too much.

"Our turnover numbers have gone down since the beginning of the season, which is great. If we can stay a bit calmer when the opponent is pressing us, they'll come down even more," Johnson said.

Mari led the Knights with 13 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks. Akina had 10 points and Charis had seven rebounds.

The next game for the Knights will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning against Yokota.
