HS boys' basketball gets one win and one loss at Kinnick

The high school boys' basketball teams played at Kinnick on Friday night. Varsity won 68-64 and JV lost 75-70.

Varsity coach Steve Hall had these comments about his team's game:

"We had a great first half, jumping out to a 49-26 lead. Kinnick outscored in the third quarter by a margin of 24-2. We couldn't make anything, not even layups, and we fumbled the ball away several times. We traded baskets in the fourth quarter and were finally able to pull ahead in the last minute.

Two clutch three-pointers from Koji and Ty, a clutch putback from Kyle and critical free throws from Enosh and Eugene helped us secure the win."

JV coach Charles Smoker said this about the JV game:

"This was a fun game to watch and coach. It was back and forth the whole game. This was a game where it looked like it would come down to the last minute, and that's what happened.

We played our best all-around game of the year, but it wasn't enough. Give Kinnick credit, because they hit some big shots, especially three-pointers, down the stretch. Kinnick hit 12 three-pointers, six in each half, for almost half of their total points. Many of them came at critical moments in the 4th quarter."

CAJ's scoring leaders were Sho (19 points), Satvik (18 points), Hikaru (13 points) and Lukas (eight points).

The teams' Kanto Plains records are now 6-1 (varsity) and 0-6 (JV). JV will play at home on Monday night against ASIJ and varsity will participate in ASIJ's Kanto Classic Tournament from next Thursday to next Saturday.
