HS girls' basketball teams lose two games at Seisen

The HS girls' basketball team played at Seisen on Thursday. Varsity lost 49-46 and JV lost 29-18.

Coach Craig Eby said the varsity team's issues came mainly on the defensive end against the Phoenix. The game was tight throughout.

"We had a much better shooting night than last night against ASIJ, but we allowed Seisen to stay in the game, and then their shooters got hot in the fourth quarter," Eby said. "Defensively, we had some lapses and plays where we should have known better. We were reluctant to go after loose balls. Seisen deserved to win, and we didn't really have it tonight."

CAJ's scoring leaders in the game were Anna (10 points), Mitsuki (eight), Rachel (seven), Mari and Marikah (six apiece).

In the JV game, the Knights stayed reasonably close for the entire game but just couldn't put together a run to close the gap.

"I thought this was one of our better passing games," coach Jared Johnson said. "Seisen's pressure on the ball was tough, but we were looking down the floor for open players and often got the ball to them. Unfortunately, not being able to finish plays after nice passes was what hurt us."

In the JV game, Marikah had 11 points and Sora had five points.

Varsity's overall season record is now 14-4, and its league record is 8-2. JV has an overall record of 4-5, with a 3-3 record in official games. Both teams will play at home against St. Maur on Saturday.
