Field hockey places third in Kanto Tournament

CAJ's field hockey team concluded its official season with a tournament at YCAC today. The Knights went into the day seeded second out of the four participating teams, but finished third.

The team started the morning with a hard-fought game against YIS, the third seed. Two goals from Megumi, one assisted by Mariko, gave CAJ a 2-1 lead entering the final quarter of play.

"We did well keeping the ball on the other side of the field, and we were playing very offensively and we found a lot of openings," Rina said of her team's play during the first portion of the game.

Coach Victor Eby said his team "dominated" the first quarters with a bunch of defensive saves and shots on goal. However, YIS put in a key goal with six minutes remaining in the game to tie the score at 2.

"We had been pushing really hard in the first three quarters, so we lost some of our energy," Megumi said. "We let our guard down a bit."

The Knights then faced the Dragons in an overtime shootout, but they couldn't score any goals in to match the Dragons' three goals in their first three opportunities.

CAJ rebounded from its narrow loss to defeat BST 2-0 in the third-place game. Megumi scored the first goal, and then Jiwon scored another.

"We were able to stay motivated for the second game and we pushed ourselves harder than the previous game, so I think that was why we won," Jiwon said.

CAJ's overall record this season is 4-4, and its league record was 3-3. The Knights will play a friendly match against ASIJ next Thursday.
