JV boys' basketball loses 48-19 to St. Mary's

The JV boys’ basketball team let a home game against St. Mary’s get out of control in the second half on Tuesday, losing 48-19. The Knights were behind just 18-12 late in the second quarter before St. Mary’s went on a 28-2 run over the next quarter and a half to blow the game wide open.

One big problem for the Knights in this game was sheer numbers. After Dongha injured his calf early in the game, CAJ had just six players available to the Titans' 12. Fatigue was clearly a major factor as St. Mary’s built its big lead.

“We were doing really well on rebounding in the first and second quarter, and defense-wise we were doing pretty good, too,” assistant coach Rick Handa said. “As the game went on, though, we started to lose our second and third chances we got from offensive rebounding, and we didn’t hustle back as much.”

GyeongJun also noted that the Titans made some key adjustments at halftime that caused the Knights to struggle.

“Their press got better in the third quarter once they realized what sort of offense we were running,” he said. "We didn’t execute our play very well and that caused a lot of turnovers.”

GyeongJun led the Knights with five points, while Hikaru and Zion each had four. CAJ’s JV boys' team is now 1-10 in league play will finish its season at the Kanto Plains JV Tournament at ASIJ this Saturday.
