Field hockey beats YIS 2-0 and loses 2-0 to ASIJ

The field hockey team played two games on Saturday, losing to ASIJ 2-0 and then beating YIS 2-0. CAJ's record is now 6-1 this season.

Against ASIJ, the Mustangs' aggressive play caused the Knights offense to struggle. According to head coach Victor Eby, ASIJ used many double and triple teams on defense to seize possession of the ball.

As a result, CAJ had just one short corner in the game, compared to three for ASIJ. The Knights also had very few shots on goal. Eby said the Mustangs "outplayed us."

Rina and Miyuki led the defensive effort for CAJ against the Mustangs with about 10 defensive saves each.

Against YIS, the Knights picked up their offense a bit. They had three shot corners and got their two goals from Meg (12th grade), one in each half. The first goal was assisted by Reeko.

Eby said the ball was in the middle of the field most of the game, but CAJ was better able to transfer its possessions into solid scoring opportunities. He noted that Yohana "played a really good game" defensively and also commended Rina, Krista and Miyuki for their defensive saves.

There was also a JV exhibition game against the Mustangs. That game ended in a 5-5 tie.

The Knights' next game will be at ASIJ next Wednesday to determine the league champion. CAJ will win the Kanto Plains with a win or tie, while ASIJ will win the league if they defeat CAJ.
