HS boys' basketball teams lose two games against St. Mary's

The high school boys' basketball teams played two games at home against St. Mary's on Friday. Varsity lost narrowly by a score of 64-62 and JV lost 73-42.

Coach Steve Hall discussed the performance of the varsity team in the close loss:

"Giving up too many offensive rebounds and errors when inbounding were probably the difference in this game. Our half-court defense allowed a number of layups, as well. Our guys executed pretty well on the offensive end.

As Coach Eby said. 'it was a fun game to watch, but a tough game to lose.'"

CAJ had Koji (19 points, Ty (16 points) and Enosh (14 points) lead the scoring attack.

Coach Charles Smoker said this about the JV"s performance against the Titans:

"St. Mary's full-court pressed us from the very beginning and it took away some of our confidence and momentum. We recovered some int he second quarter, but not 100 percent, as we looked a bit uneasy for the remainder of the first half and the second half.

But we never gave up and kept on playing tough, even though we never found our groove until the fourth quarter. We looked ready for the second half, but St. Mary's found their groove in the third quarter and scored 35 points in the quarter to put the game out of reach.

We learned a lot from the game and grew, too. Sometimes growth is painful because it means some stretching and pulling in ways that makes us feel uncomfortable."

JV was led in scoring by Satvik (23 points), Sho (eight points) and Ken (five points).

The varsity and JV will play alumni games at home on December 17 and January 7.
