HS boys' tennis has two quarterfinalists at Kanto Finals

The high school boys' tennis team competed in Kanto Tennis Finals at ASIJ on Friday. CAJ had two players win their first-round matches to advance to the quarterfinals.

CAJ had Hugo (10th grade) and Shun both advance past the first round in the singles tournament with opening-match wins. However, they both were unable to advance further. The rest of the team was unfortunately unable to pick up an official win.

"Again, the weather was more than perfect for a tennis tournament after our ASIJ match was cancelled," coach Koji Yamabe said. "All of the players participated in at least two matches on the day. Some of the players won their first round matches and faced tough opponents in the second round.

Unfortunately, all the others lost in the first round but tried very hard in the consolation tournament. Considering that many of the players had little or no experience in tennis at the beginning of the season, I am so proud of how well they now understand how to play and express themselves through tennis."

These are the full scores from Friday:

Hugo (10th grade) wins 8-2 in first round, loses 0-8 in quarterfinals
Shun wins 8-6 in first round, loses 1-8 in quarterfinals
Minoru loses 1-8 in first round, loses 1-6 in consolation quarterfinals

Joel/Peter advance past first round with bye, lose 4-8 in quarterfinals, lose 2-6 in consolation semifinals, win 7-6 in exhibition
Junu/Abhirupan lose 1-8 in first round, lose 0-6 in consolation semifinals, lose 6-7 in exhibition

The Knights will end their season next week Wednesday through Friday at Far East at Kadena High School in Okinawa.
