Varsity girls' basketball wins 38-25 against Kinnick

The varsity girls' basketball team defeated Kinnick 38-25 on Thursday night. The Knights' Kanto Plains record is now 7-3.

CAJ sprinted out to a 12-2 lead by the end of the first quarter with nice steals and good fast-break play to put the pressure on Kinnick. The Red Devils were able to stay within single digits of the Knights for much of the game, but CAJ did a great job controlling possession with steals and rebounds to fend off any major Kinnick runs.

"Our scoring was consistent in this game. We didn't have any bad quarters in that respect," coach Craig Eby said. "[Defensively], we did a good job of covering their best outside shooter and sliding over to stop their best driver on our 2-3 zone."

Kinnick switched to an aggressive half-court man-to-man defense in the fourth quarter, but Eby said CAJ stayed calm with the ball and was able to force several fouls by the Red Devils. The Knights sealed their win by making six out of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Some key performers in this game were Anna (16 points and four rebounds), Rachel (10 points), Mitsuki (six points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals), Jessica (four points, 16 rebounds and two assists) and Aasritha (six rebounds and two blocks).

Varsity will play at Zama next Monday evening.
