HS track and field completes first day of Far East

On Wednesday, the high school track and field team competed in the first day of its Far East Championships at Yokota. 

Most of the events contested on Wednesday were preliminaries, so those events did not produce final results. Everything will conclude on Thursday.

The Knights earned several points in the events that were finalized on Wednesday. They also set themselves up for good finals positioning in other events with strong preliminary performances.

CAJ’s teams are competing in Division II for smaller schools, but individual medals (top three) and ribbons (fourth through eighth) will be given according to overall placing. Below were all the Knights' performances from the day:

Finals performances:
Women's 1600 meters- Charis (6:23.40) places 20th, 6th in Division II
Men's 4x100 meter relay- Wonjun, Leo, Asher and Josiah (45.15) place 5th, 2nd in Division II
Women's 4x100 meter relay- Mina, 12th grade Megumi, Mariko and 9th grade Megumi (53.83) place 6th, 1st in Division II
Women's 4x800 meter relay- Charis, Krista, Joy and Mariko (10:58) place 6th, 2nd in Division II
Discus- Leif (32.26 meters) places 8th in discus, 4th in Division II
Shot put- Annabelle (7.21 meters) places 16th, 8th in Division II
Long jump- 12th grade Megumi (4.45 meters) places 5th, 2nd in Division II, 9th grade Megumi (4.17 meters) places 11th, 4th in Division II

Preliminary performances:
Men''s 100 meters- Josiah (11.45) qualified for fast heat, Asher (11.92) and Leo (12.11) qualified for consolation heat
Women's 100 meters- Mina (14.18) qualified for consolation heat
Men's 200 meters- Josiah (23.33) qualified for fast heat, Leo (24.30) qualified for consolation heat
Women's' 200 meters- 9th grade Megumi (29.49) and Mina (29.73) qualified for consolation heat
Men's 400 meters- Dominic (54.37) and Douglas (55.47) qualified for consolation heat
Men's 110 meter hurdles- Tokiwa (18.50) qualified for consolation heat
Women's 300 meter hurdles- 12th grade Megumi (50.47) qualified for fast heat
Men's 300 meter hurdles- Tokiwa (46.64) qualified for consolation heat

Thursday will be the second and final day of the Far East Championships. Most of the events will be scored on the second day, and team scores will also be finalized.
