Varsity boys' basketball beats St. Mary's 44-42

The varsity boys’ basketball team honored its seniors and excited the crowd with a Senior Night victory over St. Mary’s on Tuesday by a score of 44-42.

CAJ had a slight lead for much of the game, but fell behind by two points with about one minute and a half left to go when a Titans player drained a deep three-pointer. On the next possession, Enosh responded by hitting a three of his own while getting fouled. He made the free throw to put the Knights back up by two points. Neither team scored after that.

“Once Coach Hall told me to run Panther (which is a play that I usually get a shot on because of a screen), I was like, ‘let me get this shot,’” Enosh said of his key basket. “I saw an opening because the defender went under [the screen], so I just decided to let it fly.”

Coach Steve Hall praised his teams’ ability to “make shots when we had to.” The Knights held off several potential runs by the Titans with timely baskets that kept St. Mary’s from gaining too much momentum. CAJ’s defense also made key stops against the Titans at the end of the game.

“Having played them enough, we know their tendencies. We made a point of taking away what they want to do,” Hall said. “Our key thing was not getting beat on the drive.”

Enosh led the Knights with 14 points in the game. Josh also had nine points, and four others had at least four points.

The varsity boys improved their league record to 3-7 and overall record to 11-16 with Tuesday night’s win. The Knights’ final game of the season will be next Tuesday at ASIJ.
