Boys' soccer beats Zama 16-1

The boys' soccer team was dominant at Zama on Tuesday night, defeating the Trojans 16-1. It was the Knights' seventh consecutive win, and the team's record is now 7-0-1. Coach Keesh Kawaguchi gave the following thoughts on the game:

"Every team usually has one or two All-Star type of players who can do it all and lead the team. But, in my opinion, the best team is not a team with a lot of All-Star players. It's a team that, when those All-Star players get hurt, has other guys step in and fill their shoes. We're working on that.

I gave the younger guys a lot of time to play today, too, and they're stepping up and really progressing. I'm really happy about that.

It was 16 to 1, but again, behind every goal there is a storyline and a lot of things that happen.

I'm most happy about the guys who play defense: Takara, Steven, Kevin, Seth and Mish, and Josh in goal as well. There's this continuity among the defensive guys. They distribute the ball really well, they control the flow, they're always directing the younger guys playing forward or midfield very, very well.

That's the key to our success, in my opinion — it's the guys trusting one another, and I'm very happy about that."

Eight different Knights scored, including Jacky (5 goals), Angus (2), Joshua (11th grade, 2), Eugene (2), and one each from Enosh, Seth, Stephen and Takara. Zama also scored an own goal. The assists for the Knights went to Stephen (2 assists), Angus (2), Takara and Eugene.

CAJ plays at Yokota next Tuesday.
