Varsity volleyball earns pair of wins against YIS and St. Maur

The varsity volleyball team earned two wins on Saturday. The Knights beat YIS 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-23) in the morning and then beat St. Maur 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-21) in the afternoon. CAJ's record now stands at 6-2.

Coach Tanya Hall was hoping for the Knights to continue to play their own game against opponents that are weaker than many CAJ has been playing recently. She said the Knights struggled do that in both games.

"When the opponents aren't necessarily as good, it's easy to get sucked into their playing style or tempo," coach Tanya Hall said. "So I told them, 'you guys need to play your own game no matter who's on the other side.' I don't think that these were our best games, by any means."

Hall stressed her ongoing emphasis on serving after the games.

"When our serves are in, we are putting pressure on them," Hall said. "When we miss our serves, that's when we start to feel the pressure and then kind of fall apart." She added that "it's not about power, but placement."

One bright spot that Hall mentioned from the game was the performance of Mari, the team's lone freshman.

"Mari had some really nice hits and blocks," Hall said. "We're trying to really build her confidence so she can be playing like that more often and against stronger teams."

The Knights' next games will be at the ASIJ Volleyball Invite from October 11 to 13.
