HS girls' soccer wins 4-0 in friendly match against Seisen

The high school girls' soccer team started its season with an unofficial game against Seisen on Thursday. CAJ won 4-0 and scored three goals in the second half.

Coach Charles Smoker gave the following thoughts on the team's performance:

"It was our first game of the season, and the first high school game for three of our freshmen, so our timing and pass connection was a little off. But one sure thing is that we were attacking and pushing the ball up the field. I never have to tell these girls, 'attack!' because they attack without any prompting.

We had the ball on Seisen's side of the field for the majority of the first half, kept attacking, and the ball just missed the back of the goal. Rachel broke the deadlock about halfway through the first half. It was 9-on-9 and we literally didn't have any subs, but our conditioning paid off as we came out in the second half with energy, determined to put in more goals.

We struck again soon in the second half as Rachel plowed through the Seisen defense, and that energized us more. We kept the pedal to the metal and Rachel scored once more to take away any hope Seisen had for a comeback. Nana scored our fourth goal with about eight minutes left to put the icing on the victory cake.

We had a good first game and no injuries from the game. The girls stepped up and came ready to play, performing well in game situations that we didn't prepare for. It was fun to see what this team could do."

Rachel had three goals while Nana had one. Susana had two assists, while Rachel and Akina had one each.

CAJ had its seniors gone on the senior trip, but they will return after Spring Break. The Knights' next game will be at Yokota on Tuesday, April 2.
