Varsity volleyball loses 3-1 to ASIJ

The varsity volleyball team gave ASIJ a tough game on Tuesday, but the Knights eventually lost 3-1 (26-28, 25-9, 17-25, 21-25). This was the first loss of the season for the Knights, and it brings their record to 3-1.

CAJ’s strong serving and ability to pick up well-hit balls by ASIJ were strengths for the team on Tuesday.

“Our serves were stronger and more went in, which was different from other games, since that was where we kept losing points,” Mariko said.

Regarding the defense, coach Tanya Hall said the following: “We were picking up the spikes. We had talked about the fact that we need to transition the defensive digs into our offense. Even in the first set we weren’t able to do that, but then as we caught onto where their girls were hitting, we were able to transition into our offense.”

While Hall was very impressed by the team’s overall performance against a good opponent, she does think the team’s communication still needs to improve.

“When the ball doesn’t get to the setter, then a lot of times we can’t turn it into an offense,” Hall said. “The ball goes up, and we just hope somebody gets it.”

The team's next game is at home against Seisen on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
