HS boys' basketball teams get one win and one loss versus Yokota

The high school boys' basketball teams hosted Yokota on Wednesday for Senior Night. In the two games, varsity won 47-35 and JV lost 55-32.

Between games, fans and teammates honored the contributions of four seniors, who have all participated four years in CAJ's high school basketball program: Eugene, Kyle, Asuma and GyeongJun.

Regarding the actual play on the court, coach Steve Hall said this regarding the varsity's performance:

"It was a 'grind it out' type of game for us tonight. Nothing really seemed to click offensively. Our defense was solid and we rebounded pretty well. It was nice to get a win on Senior Night!"

Kyle, Ty, Koji and Enosh led the team in the scoring department.

JV coach Charles Smoker said this about the JV game:

"We came to the tipoff mentally and physically prepared, and we started fairly well. But we had seven fouls called against us in the first six minutes of the game, which unfortunately took us out our aggressive mode and kind of took away our momentum.

To our credit, we fought our way back in the second quarter and went into halftime trailing only by six points. We could have been closer or possibly leading, but our shots just weren't falling. In the third quarter, we kept chipping away at the lead. At one point, we trailed only by two points and had the chance to go ahead, but that was as close as we got.

We had some guys in foul trouble and our guys got fatigued, so the fourth quarter belonged to Yokota. We did what we could, we tried our best and it was a fun and intense game for three quarters, but it wasn't enough.

Yet we can be thankful for our health, the opportunity to play, our teammates and fan support, as well as many other things."

CAJ's scoring leaders were Sho(10 points), Lukas (seven points), Satvik (six points) and Kenshin (five points).

The teams' Kanto Plains records are now 5-1 (varsity) and 0-5 (JV). Both teams will play at Kinnick on Friday night.
