JV volleyball places 5th at tournament

The JV volleyball team completed its season on Saturday with a 5th-place finish out of 10 teams at the Kanto JV Tournament at ASIJ. The Knights first lost to Kinnick 2-1 (19-25, 26-24, 8-15), but then beat three opponents: Yokota by a score of 2-1 (22-25, 25-20, 15-8), St. Maur by a score of 2-0 (25-13, 25-17) and ASIJ JV B by a score of 2-0 (25-20, 25-18).

Coach Haruka Akashi was impressed with the team's performance despite such a tough schedule of games.

"We started our first game around 10 a.m., and then had four games and a total of 10 sets in back-to-back games. I'm pretty sure we were the only team who had that hard of a schedule," Akashi said.

She also mentioned how much improvement she saw throughout the day and compared to the rest of the season.

"All the girls started to get their serves in most of the time, we had strong hits and we always communicated well on the court," Akashi said. "All the things that we have discussed as a team to improve were finally fixed."

She added, "As sad as it is that our season is ending when we finally got it all together, it's exciting to think about what our next season of volleyball will bring. Great job today to all my JV girls. I am so proud of how they played and worked together as a team."

The Knights ended the season with an even 9-9 record, including a 6-8 record prior to the tournament. The varsity volleyball team has Far East next week in Korea.
