JV volleyball team defeats ISSH in straight sets

The JV volleyball team evened its season record at four wins and four losses on Thursday by defeating ISSH on the Symbas' home floor. CAJ won both sets by scores of 25-22 and 28-26, respectively, in its first match in nearly three weeks.

Coach Haruka Akashi said the team "played really well" and pointed out a few main strengths in the game.

"We had really good serves today as a team, specifically from Jane, TaYoung and Rina," Akashi said. "Some of the girls' aces helped them keep going. We had better movement, as well, and the girls were able to get more hitting opportunities."

Akashi notes that one area for improvement is court awareness.

"The girls tend not to watch the court to know the open spaces," she said. "We often get stuck on wanting to have a nice bump, set and spike. Sometimes, the girls just need to aim for those open spots to earn points."

The next games for the JV and varsity volleyball teams will be next Tuesday at Zama.
