Like the JV team, the varsity team also completed a significant comeback victory against ISSH on Thursday night. The Knights won 3-2 (16-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-12, 15-13) to start their season on a positive note.

Coach Tanya Hall commented that unforced errors and missed rotations were major issues in the first two sets.

"I told them that we were giving points away and that they weren’t having to earn them," Hall said. Kachel added that the team's many different age groups caused some difficulties with teamwork.

Hall then changed her rotation for the third set, which calmed the team down.

CAJ found some chemistry in the third set. The Knights scored the final five points of the set to win 25-21, and their home crowd began to rally behind the team. Kachel said that the fans "really helped to keep us motivated and aggressive."

The Knights cut down on unforced errors in the final three sets, which played a major role in the victory. Hall also noted that the team moved well and picked up a lot of balls that ISSH tipped over the net. She does have one big priority for the team moving forward, however.

"Serve receive was in my notebook, highlighted and underlined," Hall said. "We need to make sure that that ball gets to the setter."

CAJ will travel to Kinnick for its second match of the season next Tuesday.
