HS wrestlers compete at Kinnick's The Beast Tournament

The CAJ high school and middle school wrestling teams competed at Kinnick's The Beast Tournament on Saturday. The Knights scored seven points to place 10th out of 12 teams.

Unfortunately, only three of CAJ's wrestlers were able to compete on Saturday: Joe (115 pounds), Peter (122 pounds) and Tai (141 pounds). Joe placed second in his weight class, and Tai was able to win one of his matches in the consolation bracket.

"Joe wrestled really well throughout the day and had a tough loss in the finals," coach Morris Yaegashi said. "He'll get back to the drawing board on Monday to continue building confidence and being more active in looking for takedowns and shooting for the legs."

Peter was unfortunately unable to wrestle beyond the first round due to an arm injury.

Coach Morris Yaegashi gave his thoughts on Tai's day:

"Tai had a really good last match in the consolation semifinals. He got an ankle pick three times in the first round, and his opponent began to catch on in the second round and ended up falling just short of changing his strategy to fight back and win the match. It was really good wrestling overall, and he again grew a little bit as a wrestler during this tournament."

Below are the individual weight class tournament results for the high school:
115- Joe wins first round, wins quarterfinals, wins semifinals, loses championship match
122- Peter loses first round, loses second round due to injury default
141- Tai loses first round, wins consolation first round, loses consolation quarterfinals

The next wrestling event is a home dual meet on against Yokota and St. Mary's.
