Varsity boys' basketball defeats YIS 55-37

The varsity boys' basketball team used an energetic first quarter to defeat YIS Thursday night by a score of 55-37. CAJ's league record is now 1-2 in league games.

The Knights jumped out to a 24-3 lead after one quarter as they scored many points in transition off of the Dragons' turnovers and missed shots.

In the second quarter, YIS got back into the game by hitting more shots, taking off its pressure defense and playing a tight man-to-man defense. CAJ also had trouble converting its good shot opportunities after doing that so well in the first quarter.

The Knights led 31-16 at halftime and their lead stayed pretty close to 15 points for most of the rest of the game.

"We generally play pretty good first quarters," Coach Steve Hall said. "That's usually our best quarter. The challenge for these guys is whether they can keep it going."

Hall commented his team got a little bit too eager on offense once it had a big lead over the Dragons. Instead of running its plays, CAJ tried to pour it on offensively by taking shots early in the shot clock.

"In the second half, we got a little bit carried away with taking quick shots and not really settling down," Hall said. "I told them that they were going to get good shots [no matter what]. But [they need to] make the defense work. Their defense really didn't have to do anything because we would just take a quick shot."

The leading statistical contributors for the Knights in this game were Koji (22 points, steals), Enosh (16 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and five steals) and Ty (eight points, five rebounds and four steals).

The varsity Knights' next game is against St. Maur at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
