HS boys' tennis loses 4-1 against KIST

The high school boys’ tennis team lost 4-1 at home against KIST on Wednesday. The Knights' season record is now 2-3.

Coach Koji Yamabe said CAJ didn't know very much about KIST's level of play heading into the match, but that KIST turned out to have some very strong players, especially at

“We had some slow starts, not being able to take advantage of our home court,” Yamabe said. "In some of the matches, KIST took leads of 3-0 and 6-0, but we were able to eventually win some games on them."

Minoru earned CAJ's lone win by a score of 8-6 at the No. 3 singles position. "He led 3-0 at the beginning, but his opponent adjusted to make it close. In the end, after many long rallies, Minoru won. It seemed that he gained confidence and patience from the match."

Yamabe said that Hugo (9th grade) was also return to action without any trouble at No. 2 singles after a short absence due to a wrist injury.

1st Singles- Hugo (10th grade) loses 5-8
2nd Singles- Shun loses 4-8
3rd Singles- Minoru wins 8-6
1st Doubles- Joel and Peter lose 6-8
2nd Doubles- Hugo (9th grade) and Abhirupan lose 2-8

The Knights will play at ASIJ on Thursday afternoon.
