HS girls' cross country falls 15-50 to Kinnick and Zama

The high school girls' cross country team again had to forfeit to their opponents on Saturday due to only having four uninjured runners complete the race. The Knights lost 15-50 to Kinnick and Zama while racing the Tama Hills lower course, which is 5 kilometers long. The team ended with a 0-8 record and was ninth out of nine teams in the Kanto Plains.

CAJ was also aiming to qualify its girls' team for the Far East Championships in Misawa in November. The requirement was an average time of 24 minutes or faster for the team's top four runners. Unfortunately, the Knights' average in that category was 24 minutes, 50 seconds.

That said, it was a strong day for the young team. Natasha again led the Knights with a 40th-place finish out of 54 runners, finishing with a time of 24:26.5. Anna (24:47.1, 43rd), Charis (25:01.4, 45th) and Sara (25:05.1, 46th) were all close behind. Full results can be found
here.

"We had high hopes for the girls today, and while they didn't qualify, they did very well," coach Nate Rudd said. "It was exciting to see that all of them pushed very hard to get toward qualifying. They all worked for it and none of them took it easy today."

The next meet for the girls' team will be next Saturday at Yokota.
