Varsity girls' basketball team wins against ASIJ

The varsity girls' basketball team wrapped up league play on Saturday morning at home with a 42-39 win against ASIJ.

Throughout the game, the score stayed close between the Knights and their rival Mustangs.Coach Craig Eby praised Mari for a big game (and especially a big second half) both rebounding and scoring. He added that her quick outlet passes and dribbles out from underneath the basket helped ignite CAJ's transition offense.

But it wasn't just Mari who played well for CAJ. Several other key players shot confidently and contributed to a balanced win.

"It was sort of like, 'who do you stop?'" Eby said. "For awhile, ASIJ tightened up its defense on Anna, but then Rachel hit shots and Mitsuki hit shots. We stuck with it at the end under pressure from ASIJ, and if we keep playing like this, we should be meeting Zama in the Finals at Far East."

For the Knights, key performances cam from Mari (13 points, 13 rebounds), Anna (10 points, nine rebounds), Mitsuki (eight points, four assists), Rachel (seven points) and Jessica (10 rebounds and four assists). Four different players had two steals.

CAJ ended the regular season with a 10-3 record against Kanto Plains opponents, finishing third in the league. The Knights will play in their Far East Tournament at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa from Thursday to Saturday
