HS girls' cross country loses 17-43 to YIS and 15-49 to ISSH

The high school girls' cross country team raced its second meet of the season on a rainy Saturday at Tama Hills. It was the first time this season the girls have run the longer 4.4-kilometer course, as opposed to the 3.3-kilometer course, and they lost 17-43 to YIS and 15-49 to ISSH. The Knights are now 0-3 this season.

Despite the two losses on the longer course, the young Knights team fared well. CAJ's top five for the day were Natasha (23:24.2, 44th out of 64 varsity runners), Anna (24:13.5, 54th), Charis (24:37.5, 57th), Sara (25:09.8, 59th) and Yohana (28:46.4, 63rd). Full results from the meet are available

Coach Nate Rudd expressed the following thoughts about the team's performance on the hilly Tama terrain:

"We worked on some hills, and I think that proved [helpful]. I think the other benefit we had today was just knowledge of the course; the new runners knew what was coming this week."

The Knights' next meet is next Saturday at Tama Hills. CAJ's girls will once again run the longer course. Rudd discussed his strategy for the team's path to continued improvement. This strategy applies for all runners, not just the girls:

"I think we are getting stronger in the distance [side of things]," Rudd said "I think we want to keep working on general endurance, and I think we’ll probably start switching to sprinting a little more in the future. We do still want to work on hills and getting them stronger, as well."

CAJ's next meet will again be at Tama Hills next Saturday.
