MS soccer teams lose two games at St. Mary's

The middle school soccer teams traveled for two matches against St. Mary's on Saturday. A Team lost 5-1 and B Team lost 5-2, moving the teams' records to 0-1-1 and 0-2-0, respectively.

Coach Charles Smoker said the A Team needed to enter the game with better mental preparation with more focus against a very strong Titans team. CAJ cut a 2-0 halftime deficit in half with a goal by Simon, but St. Mary's was able to stretch its lead out in the second half.

"We regrouped mentally and physically at halftime, but when we pressed up at the end [to close the deficit], St. Mary's was able to score on the counter attack," coach Charles Smoker said. "The No. 1 thing we need to take away from this game is learning to be mentally ready for the game, and we weren't today. We played about 60 minutes of good soccer and 10 minutes of not-so-good soccer."

Smoker said St. Mary's had a very strong B Team. He mentioned that CAJ also didn't quite prepare well enough mentally for a team of that caliber.

The Knights play at KIST next Tuesday. That will be only an A Team game.
